Enantiodromia

In Jungian psychology, enantiodromia describes the tendency for an extreme condition, belief, or behavior to eventually transform into its opposite. In this illustration, the giant mask represents the persona, or social mask, whose conscious attitude has become too one-sided. In response, the unconscious opposite—represented by the shadow figure—emerges.
